Silage Film - Bale Wrap
With regard to individual silage bales, we help you ensile to your maximum level with our product offerings.
Our silage wrap range has been created to offer you the best performing films while offering great value for your money. All of our silage wrap product range is supplied on plastic cores to offer protection against moisture.
The Purpose of Silage Film
The objective with silage films is to create an oxygen barrier, to help maintain as much protein as possible when the bale is wrapped and to fight off any mould or spoilage through oxygen ingress. Our silage wrap range has been selected for their undeniable oxygen barriers, and for their ability to cope with newer machinery aggression, which can really test some films, while also considering modern pre-stretch gear ratios (up to 75%). The other things to consider when selecting the appropriate film for your operation are crop type – will this challenge the film via stalky materials, transport / handling post wrapping as well as longevity (is the silage being fed out quickly or does it need to last 12 months? The answers to these questions will ultimately affect product selection and budget range of the silage wrap.
Silage Film - Bale Wrap Construction – How many layers is best?
Do you know the difference between 3 layer, 5 layer and 7 layer construction silage film, and how this will impact on performance? 3 layer constructed films can have up to 3 microns of variation in the thickness of the film, which can cause weak spots, breakage / downtime and easy puncture of the film. 5 layer constructed films can have similar problems when challenged, with up to 2 microns of variation. Whereas 7 layer constructed films such as our Silopower will only have up to 0.75 of a micron variation in film thickness. Ultimately leading to better performance, less tearing, less downtime, and better puncture resistance. Speak to anyone with a McHale Twin Orbital wrapper and you’ll find they’re mostly all using 7 layer film for this reason. Quicker wrapping with less downtime equals working efficiencies.
Grass Cuvva 5 Layer Film
For applications where the silage material is mostly softer grasses with no stalky materials, and where there’s not a high level of handling and transport post baling, or where the silage will be fed out quickly, Grass Cuvva 5 layer film is a great value for money option. If the film won’t really be challenged by the above factors then this film makes a perfect companion for making silage. Made in China the savings per roll are significant when comparing to an Australian or European 7 layer silage film.
Grass Cuvva 7 Layer film
Made in China from German 7 layer blown co-extustrusion technology, Grass Cuvva 7 is another great value option and probably the best value for money 7 layer film on the market in Australia. 7 layer construction means that puncture and tear resistance are higher in this product when comparing to its “little brother” Grass Cuvva 5. Grass Cuvva 7 comes in both green and black colour variants and is a great choice for the budget conscious looking for a higher specification film.
SiloPower 25 7 Layer Film
For the more discerning contractor and farmer, we recommend the European made SiloPower 25. As the name suggests, this is a 25um thick silage film which has seven layer construction. Seven layers allows the film to be more uniform and also to be manipulated to place the vital ingredients (such as UV inhibitor, tack, oxygen block, strength) where you need it. One of the best performing films on the market SiloPower 25 can be used in any application with gusto. The film is a high tack product, which is on plastic cores to guard against moisture and swollen cores. This premium silage film is also guaranteed at 70% stretch and contains high UV , to protect against the harsh Australian sun.
SiloPower 21 7 Layer Film
SiloPower 21 Extra is the newest product in our stable. Developed for film on film combi wrappers, this is also a seven layer silage film, with 21um thickness and boasts 26% more film on the roll at a whopping 1900m length, without compromising too much on puncture and tear resistance. The SiloPower 21 Extra offers good efficiency to keep your bale costs down.
